Our Mission:
Santa Barbara Legal Secretaries Association provides a professional network for legal support professionals. The professional legal secretary is the cornerstone of a smoothly operating law practice. You can choose being a legal secretary as a career path or as a stepping stone to other legal professions. Our group liaises with the Santa Barbara County Bar Association, Santa Barbara Women Lawyers, Barristers and Santa Barbara Paralegal Association, as well as the many LSI chapters throughout the state. Locally, we offer assistance with Mock Trial and Annual Law Day events, employment advertising free of charge, and provide educational opportunities. Full membership also provides discounted legal publications and registration fees for seminars hosted by us and those offered by other associations that are of interest to our members.
SBLSA pursues dual purposes: to provide education and to promote personal career objectives in conjunction with LSI, Inc. by:
- Stimulating a high order of business and professional attainment.
- Furthering our knowledge of the law and upholding its honor and dignity.
- Creating a high standard of ethics among our members.
- Cooperating and assisting in every possible way the interests of legal secretaries through Legal Secretaries, Inc. (LSI), our state association, and through our interface with other legal associations in Santa Barbara County.
- Establishing a supportive and extensive network that incorporates members from local firms and statewide chapters of LSI, and provides recognition with courts and legal support services.
- The opportunity through LSI membership to obtain classification as a Certified California Legal Secretary (CCLS) by offering testing twice each year and to maintain it with continuing education MCLE seminars offered at conferences and legal specializaton seminars, or local chapter programs throughout each year.
- Providing scholarships for education fees for high school graduating seniors, re-entry workers, and those changing their law field in need of funds to pursue a legal support staff position.

Santa Barbara Legal Secretaries Association (SBLSA) is a chapter of Legal Secretaries, Incorporated (the state level organization), www.lsi.org.
SBLSA offers two levels of membership:
full membership (currently $45/yr)
gives you publications, discounts and benefits in both organizations;
local membership (currently $25/yr.) offers you our newsletter & numerous local activities/seminars at a discounted rate.
